WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
The Grinding Machinist II possesses specialized experience in operating and setting up CNC grinding machines for the production of complex engineering-grade plastic components. This role is critical to supporting our high-precision manufacturing operations for the aerospace, aviation, and automotive industries.
On a daily basis, the Grinding Machinist II sets up and operates CNC Grinding machines (Manual OD/ID grinders, surface grinders, hones, and CNC OD/ID grinding machines) according to scheduled orders to produce optimum output of quality of machined parts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC grinding, a deep understanding of plastic materials, and a commitment to teamwork, quality, and safety standards.
Openings are on 2nd shift ($1.50 Shift Differential)2nd Shift Hours: 2:30pm-11:00pm
Job Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Set up, operate, and maintain CNC grinding machines to produce high-tolerance plastic parts.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and G/M-code to determine machining operations.
Select appropriate grinding wheels, fixtures, and tooling based on material and part specifications.
Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Contribute ideas and suggestions on improvement opportunities
Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues, including tool wear, machine calibration, and part inconsistencies.
Maintain accurate production records and ensure compliance with quality control standards.
Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to improve processes and resolve technical challenges.
Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
Maintain accurate in-process documentation. record and report problems as they arise.
Perform set-up for complex/advanced/non-routine jobs with little or no supervision.
Make tooling as necessary
Dismantle jigs, tools, and special fixtures
Ability to use measuring equipment effectively such as micrometers, calipers and other precision measurement tools.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred
3-5 years of experience operating and setting up CNC grinding machines, preferably in a plastics manufacturing environment.
Experience with CNC control systems (e.g., Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma).
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T. Monitoring dimensional and visual characteristics to detect non-conformances.
Familiarity with aerospace, aviation, or automotive industry standards is a plus
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.
Knowledge of plastic materials and their machining characteristics.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
Employee is required to Set-up and Operate: Manual OD/ID grinders, surface grinders, hones, and CNC OD/ID grinding machines, drills, band saw, hand tools, vacuums, slicers, micrometers, verniers, and other inspection equipment.
